On the Live
CD, "Passions": This
recording features two exquisite duos of
standards performed by Bowl
and Bunns,
"My Foolish Heart" and "For
Heaven sake", each is a gem unto itself,
with Reeves and Wilson working sonic magic
that leaves one wanting more. The
interplay between vibes and piano is at
times subtle and then forceful. The choice
of tonalities and voicings can only be made
by musicians who are master artists. Their
duos leave one wanting more, and one gets
plenty more from the full quintet, which
features outstanding performances by saxophonist
Eddie Bayard. For example, listen to him
on Reeves' original, "One for Eddie".
Bayard is a mature and exciting player.
His sound is captivating and expressive.
His musical ideas reflect a thorough understanding
of the languages of jazz' past - from this
depth of musicality. Drummer James Gaiters
and Bassist Dean Huelet provide a strong
foundation that propels the band and keeps
it swinging.

The CD
"Comfort Zone - Bowl, Bunns and Friends" is a fantastic effort and a dream come
true. For many of us King Reeves has been the epitome of a musician's musician.
Playing with so many musicians all over the land, it is great to see "Bowl"
emerge from years of exploring the jazz idiom making his own statement in
"Comfort Zone".
This CD is alive and exciting. The take off on the first
three tunes shows their versatility and definitely reveals how much they are a
part of their instruments. And the tunes written by Bowl show the genius and the
knowing that all things are possible if only we believe. "The Everyone has a
purpose in life and it is obvious that "Comfort Zone" shows that purpose. As
administrator of a youth program, I believe that culturally based music is one
of the essentials of positive child development. The vision is clear and the
attainment is without a doubt apparent in this presentation.

On
the CD "Comfort Zones": This
recording by the legendary Cincinnati vibist King Reeves is long overdue and
very rewarding. The sessions presented clearly illustrate the depth and breath
of Reeves' outstanding musicality. Known amongst musicians as "Fruit Bowl" or "
Bowl", Reeves performances on this recording are swinging, hip, sensitive,
exciting and "happening". He demonstrates a mastery of performance integrity and
nuance seldom achieved by more popular jazz artists.
The recording also
features another Cincinnati legend, pianist Charlie "Buns" Wilson, who performs
on seven of the ten selections. The chemistry between Reeves and Wilson results
in mature creative musical expression that will be appreciated by listeners "in
the know".
This music speaks for itself, reflecting a sincerity of
purpose and intent that are the foundations of the musical styles commonly
called "jazz". This recording is the real deal.

I had
a chance to listen to your CD today. I was very impressed, the songs were very
nice and the solo was soul touching.

Put it
on, close your eyes and pretend you're under the glare of the db Blindfold Test.
My money says you'll get it wrong - 'Comfort Zones' oozes out like one of the
classic '60's Blue Note pieces of heaven. 'King Reeves' 'Comfort Zones' is
exactly that - a big shady tree on a sunny, hot day. A great mix of originals
and standards by a pro groovin' out the real deal. Forgot about stars - 4
Constellations for Fruitbowl!!
